Royal Vanidor was my absolute favorite horse. It is very emotional for me to add him to this page and it took me a few months to do so. Vanidor died in February of 2008 due to an accidental rectal tear caused by a vet examination. He was a very spiritual, gentle soul that I connected very strongly with. Vanidor taught me so many great lessons and I will forever love and cherish him. I trained Vanidor since he was a weanling and we went up to the Prix St. Georges level. He had a beautiful piaffe and was also doing full canter pirouettes and two-tempi changes. Vanidor was also a wonderful performer and his best routine was our Bellydance number done with Lydia on the ground with her veil. Vanidor loved interacting with the dancer and the veil. His personality was very charming and everyone loved him. I also enjoyed doing all the dressage movements bareback on him and I taught him the Spanish Walk. I will put videos of us on my website in the future. Click here for pictures.
Max was also a unique soul. I only rode him for a year and a half but we formed a great bond. Max was put down in January of 2008 due to complications to colic. We were schooling the Grand Prix test and his piaffe/passage tour was just beautiful. I could do full canter pirouettes with one hand on him and he was so powerful and dramatic. I competed Max at Prix St. Georges in 2007 with scores over 65%. We also went to the Region 8 Championships and performed a dramatic Fourth Level Freestyle. I will post the video of our freestyle on my website in the future. I miss Max's unique personality and his big teddy bear eyes. I was dreaming of riding Max this summer in my first Grand Prix test but unfortunately our partnership together was cut short. Luckily our time together was very memorable and happy. Lucinda is a Lipizzan mare that I rode for over 5 years. I earned many of my scores towards my Maine Dressage Society Rider Medals and also my scores towards my USDF Bronze Medal. She was the horse that I got all my Second level scores to enter the "L" USDF Judges Program. I also competed a Third level Freestyle one show season and rode her in our Equestrian Theater every year. She was a real performer and made a perfect pair with Lydia Rose's Grand Prix Lipizzan mare Vienna. Lucy was a hot horse that I learned so much on and I was able to teach her all the Grand Prix movements. She had a spectacular piaffe and very active hind legs that really danced in her medium trot. She was sold and now enjoys the warm weather down south.
Mercutio was a horse that I started as a foal. I was riding his mother Benvoliette at the time and worked with him until he was 5 years old. He was very easy to start under saddle and he was very calm and steady at First level when I stopped riding him. We used him in the Academy program for different students and then I had him back in training last summer to teach him how to jump. We did a lot of cross-country work and then he was back in the school program. This fall I worked with him a little and then he was sold to a local man that Mercutio seems to really like.
Juliet is another horse I started as a foal. She is also out of Benvoliette and she was the first foal that was strictly my project. I adored her and she was just the sweetest thing. I never had any issues with her and she was also very easy to start under saddle. However, she didn't have an expressive stride for me to compete with so we used her in the school program. She turned into a nice jumper as well and she was sold in 2005 and now lives in New Hampshire.
Royal Rajah is a Lipizzan/Thoroughbred gelding. He is half-related to Shen by their Thoroughbred sire. I rode Rajah to Second level with beginnings of halfpass, shoulder-in and flying changes. He is level headed and safe. He was 6 years old at the time and I showed him also at First level this past summer. Rajah was sold to a former student who is having a blast with him. She even showed him in our Equestrian Theater!
Benvoliette was back in training after 4 years as a schoolhorse. She is a Hannoverian/Selle Francaise/Thoroughbred. Her father is the well-known Grand Prix sire Benvolio. Before she became a schoolmaster she was trained to do all the movements to Grand Prix except the piaffe. She competed around New England in the Young Riders division and helped me earn my scores for my Maine Dressage Society and USDF medals. Click here for more pictures of Benvoliette.
Winter had the best personality for learning. She caught on to new movements so quickly but unfortunately was not gifted with a good stride. She was smooth and comfortable but was not able to do much of a medium trot. Because of her mind she was able to do smooth flying changes and halfpass when she was four years old. She became a school horse and taught many students how to do flying changes and she also was a talented jumper. She was sold and moved to Massachusetts many years ago. She was such a sweet soul and I hope she is still enjoying her work.
Cora is a Thoroughbred mare that I rode for about a year. She knew how to do some upper level movements but was not gifted with stride. She is slightly built downhill and while she found it easy to collect in the canter she had a hard time lifting her frame because of her build. I did tempi changes and halfpass with Cora and also showed her Fourth level a few times. Cora still lives at Isaac Royal Farm and is owned by a student named Emma who loves her to pieces.
