This month was amazing! I have my very own horse-after 20 years of being in love with Friesians I now have my very own. His name is Douwe and he is a 7 year old gelding. (For those of you who do not know, Friesians are always black, have long manes and tails, and also have long hair around their feet called feathers. They were bred mostly to drive carriages and have very fancy trots and high, arched necks. They have become very popular as dressage sporthorses and are also well known for performing in movies.) I first worked with Douwe on Vinalhaven Island this summer. Vinalhaven Island is one of my absolute favorite places in the world. My grandparents own a summer home that I have visited since I was a little girl. There are about 20 horses on the island so what a shock to me that I would find my first horse there! Douwe came over from Holland when he was 5 and was previously trained to drive. He doesn't have much dressage training, I have been working mostly on throughness, lateral suppleness and balance at the trot and canter. I am hoping to show him in a musical freestyle next summer and start performing with him in the fall.
I made my first trip to Tallahassee, Florida at the beginning of the month. I judged a schooling show and did a clinic at Southern Oaks Equestrian Center owned by Marsha Hartford-Saap. I will be doing monthly clinics in Tallahassee.
I displayed my artwork at a local art/craft fair in Dover-Foxcroft. I have many custom items for sale including a beautiful trunk and a jewelry box that would make any horse-lover very happy this holiday season. I also have custom ornaments for sale, have your family or friend's name painted onto a beautiful wooden rocking horse for your Christmas tree!
