Equine Spirit Newsletter
March 2008
This month was very succesful for me to be in Florida. I have been giving clinics and teaching in Tallahassee, Florida at Southern Oaks Equestrian Center. I was there in February and came back in March for a few more clinics. I did another Ride-A-Test Clinic where each participant rides a dressage test as they would in a dressage show. I judge their ride and then discuss their scores and give them a mini-lesson on how to improve. I also did a Quadrille/Musical Freestyle clinic where I helped riders learn how to begin putting together a competition freestyle. I also worked with a group of riders on how to ride the basic movements of Quadrille. I was also able to see the World Cup qualifier Event show called Red Hills in Tallahasee. The show was attended by thousands of people and I had a trunk of mine on display at the Town & Country tack booth.
Because of the tragic loss of Max and Vanidor I have been given the opportunity to take over Lydia's mare Vienna. Lydia competed Vienna Grand Prix 2 years ago and wanted me to ride her. Lydia is such a dear friend and I know how hard it is to hand over your horse to someone else but I am very grateful. Vienna and I will take some time to get to know each other but she has a lot of personality and reminds me of when I used to ride Lucinda many years ago. I don't have any pictures of me riding Vienna yet but you can see her and Lydia here.
I have been giving Basic & Intermediate Bellydance classes at the Dover-Foxcroft YMCA for a few months now. I began bellydancing to add as a new dimension to our Equestrian Theater. I believe that this form of dance is very beneficial to horseback riders because it supples all the core muscle groups and hips that a rider uses on a horse. It also teaches co-ordination and timing which are essential to great riding.
Currently I am taking on working students to assist me at Isaac Royal Farm while I train and teach. My requirements are that working students be 16 or older (have a driver's license), have a hard working, positive attitude, and be comfortable around horses. Riding experience is not necessary, I can teach you how to start from scratch. Be open to learn from me and the horses. Call my cell phone or email me if you are interested. The schedule is flexible, I will take people once a week, every day, anything that works into your schedule works for me. I am at the farm every day from 8-6 so I need help at all hours. Adults can work for their children to ride as well.
