I have been drawing horses ever since I first saw one when I was 7 years old. My initial sketches were quite rough but I practiced constantly. I drew many dressage horses and riders doing the upper level movements of piaffe and extended trot. At that point I had never done what the riders in my drawing could do so it was a way to visualize my goals. Now I can do all the movements, even one-handed. Over the years I have developed my own feel for the natural, free flowing beauty of the horse form. I enjoy letting the colors and the horses come spontaneously and creatively. I have done pieces by going from a photograph and used different media such as pastel, watercolor, India ink and pencil. But my favorite is definitely acrylic paints and so far using wood as my canvas. I prefer drama and simplicity to realistic artwork. I feel more creative if I can capture the essence of a horse in a couple brushstrokes.

I am able to paint at home which gives me the ultimate in flexibility. I train full time so I paint in the evening as a way to unwind and explore my creative side.
