| * About Me* | |
Horses are my life, ever since I was 7 they have been everything. I was born in Maine and have grown up in Maine. I lived in Topsham until I was 7 and then we moved to Greenville where we had a summer camp that my parents renovated into a wonderful home. Living in Greenville was the best way to grow up. We didn't have any neighbors and we had trails all around the house and through the woods. I grew up being a horse all day. I had a herd and three barns of Breyer horses in the house and I was a horse galloping and jumping everywhere when I was outside. I fell in love with horses when I was on a field trip in day care. They took us to a local barn and all I remember is a chestnut horse cantering by me on a road. The horse looked so big and magical. My Mom said I went home that day and couldn't stop saying how I had to go back there as soon as possible. But it wasn't making much sense to her so she had to call the day care lady and ask where they had taken me that day. So I started taking lessons at the same barn, it was western and we mostly went on trail rides. We couldn't ride in the winter so I just rode in the warmer months. When I was 10 I wanted more challenging lessons so my Mom took me to Dover-Foxcroft every Saturday. I rode at Fox Run, a Centered Riding barn and learned basic English and jumping. After 3 years at this barn my Mom convinced me to take a lesson at another barn in town. I remember my first lesson at Isaac Royal Farm was a jumping lesson. Carole had me jumping so many fences and higher than I had ever gone before. I was hooked. Carole was so knowledgeable and really let me jumpi and ride a lot more than I had been. My Mom started commuting to Orono to continue her college masters degree in Speech Therapy. My parents talked about moving to Bangor to be closer to her school and my Dad's work. But because I was so serious about my riding they made the generous move to Dover-Foxcroft so I could ride full time. I started on the Olympic Aspirant Program when I was 13 and rode almost every day after that. My first goal was to be an Olympic Show Jumper. I hadn't really seen much dressage. Then I saw an exhibition that Robert Dover did at the Washington International Horse Show. He rode under the spotlights to the song One Moment in Time by Whitney Houston. It was so beautiful and once I saw that I knew that this was what I wanted to do. Dressage to music. I watched that video every day for a year, sometimes twice. I was obsessed with it. The transition from extended trot to passage gave me chills. I was so inspired that I dreamt of doing my own musical kur to that song for my High School Graduation. A the time I was in 7th Grade. The goal was one of my first dreams realized. My principal allowed me to perform out on the field hockey field and he had the entire student body come out after assembly to watch me. I was riding one of the first horses I learned how to train, Benvoliette. We used my brother's sound system and it sounded really good. I got chills and almost cried because I was so proud of myself to be riding this freestyle that I had dreamt about for 6 years. My family has always been my best support. My parents were wonderful to let me follow my own path and not force me to go to a traditional college or do other activities that would take me away from horses. Horses are also very expensive and they were great to help me compete and train all through high school. They also allowed me brother the same freedom to follow his path and he is living his dream as a rising talent as a musician. He is in a heavy metal band named Trivium and travels the world in a tour bus doing what he loves, playing the electric guitar. Corey played for one of my musical freestyles many years ago in our Equestrian Theater. I rode Lucinda to some electric guitar music and he played the intro for me and the audience. It was so wonderful and I hope to combine our talents again someday.
More to be added soon.
